We’re CIMS Certified – What Does That Mean?
OV Cleans is a CIMS-certified commercial custodial business, but why is that important? We’re so glad you asked. CIMS is short for Cleaning Industry Management Standards, which are standards set forth by the International Sanitary Supply Association, or ISSA – The Worldwide Cleaning Industry Association. Basically, ISSA sets the cleaning industry standards and has organized a certification for organizations to show they’ve met these stringent standards and are capable of providing a certain level of service. It’s important, because when you choose a CIMS-certified organization for your cleaning needs, you’re selecting a known entity to help maintain the cleanliness of your business. You’re already ahead of the game.
ISSA partners with industries, governments, corporate entities, and communities to strengthen cleaning standards. Their mission is to increase the appreciation for cleaning as an investment in human health, the environment, and an improved bottom line. To be become certified, custodial teams have to fulfill a long list of criteria, including using quality systems and accounting for the health and safety of the crews.

To receive the CIMS certification, cleaning companies must meet six criteria:
- Quality systems
- Written service delivery plan and purchasing procedures
- Human resources policy including factors such as fair hiring practices and management training
- Health, safety, and environmental stewardship
- Management commitment, including a communication plan and risk management
- Green buildings and services, including a written green cleaning policy, recycling, and powered janitorial equipment.
Hiring a CIMS-certified cleaning service for your organization helps ensure that you’re receiving the best possible service according to cleaning industry standards.
